Mood Balloon Parade
Ages 4-7
In Brightville, every kid had a balloon that showed their feelings. Real balloons, floating off each wrist like bright pets on strings. Some shone yellow when you felt cheerful. Some swirled purple when you were curious. Some drooped blue when you were tired. And when your day went really wobbly, storm clouds puffed inside. Today, Mia's balloon hovered low and heavy, stormy gray with a dripping rain cloud. Beside her marched the twins, Luka and Sasha. Their balloons bounced happily. Luka's fizzed bright orange, Sasha's glowed steady green.
"Mia, your balloon's got a rain cloud," Luca said.
"Looks like a tiny storm party. Everything okay?" Sasha said.
"I don't know. I just feel a little meh, like a squishy pancake," Mia said.
The twins didn't push for more. They just stood beside her.
"Want to walk the parade with us? We can talk or not talk. Maybe. Yeah," Sasha said.
Taking a walk sounds nice. They strolled past Mr. Juggles, balancing a tower of squeaking rubber chickens. At the cotton candy cart, pink sugar clouds spun as big as beach balls. Behind the brass band, they copied the trombone's knee kicks, legs wobbling until they looked like penguins. As they waddled, Mia's balloon floated a little higher. Her shoulders relaxed a little too.
"So, my brother practiced dinosaur roars all night, every five minutes, "Roar!" It even shook the walls," Mia said.
"Bet the neighbors thought a T-rex moved in," Sasha said.
"The lamp was shaking like in those dino movies," Mia said.
At the lemonade stand, Mia's balloon lightened to silver. By the jugglers, it swirled with yellow. By Town Square, it was pink with gold sprinkles.
"Yay, your sunshine's back!" Luca said.
"Yeah, my balloon feels so much lighter now. Thanks for just hanging out and hearing me out," Mia said.
The parade ended at the big stage where Mayor Dot shouted silly compliments. Luka, excellent elbow rhythm. Sasha, strong shoelace game. Mia, outstanding balloon bravery. Mia's balloon floated higher than ever. The rain cloud was gone. Pink and gold sparkled and shimmered. And the three friends waddled away, balloons bouncing and laughter snorting. A little kindness had chased the storm and made the day brighter.
