At Coral Cove Swim School, the water was clear and blue. Two dolphins, Zazie and Zeek, bounced beside the lane rope. Zeek wiggled his tail so fast he made tiny whirlpools.

"Today we practice glide kicks. Slow, straight, and steady," Ms. Pearl said.

"I can do big fast kicks!" Zeek said.

"Me too. Watch me splash," Zazie said.

They kicked as hard as they could. Splash, splash, wobble. Zazie spun sideways into a patch of sea grass. Zeek bumped a floating foam noodle with his nose.

"Why are we not zooming?" Zeek asked.

"My tail is trying. It just keeps making soup," Zazie said.

Ms. Pearl smiled and tapped two little shells together. Tick. Tick.

"Try one tiny kick on each tick. Tiny can be mighty when it keeps going," Ms. Pearl said.

Zazie frowned at her tail. "One tiny kick feels too small."

"Then we will let it grow. Bubble by bubble," Ms. Pearl said.

Zazie tried one quiet kick. Zeek tried one too. Then another. Then another. At first, they barely moved. A silver bubble floated past them, then two, then a whole little trail.

"Wait. I am moving," Zeek said.

"Me too. My tail is not making soup anymore," Zazie said.

They kept the rhythm. Tick. Kick. Tick. Kick. Their bodies stretched long. The foam noodle stayed still. The sea grass waved from far behind them.

"Look back," Ms. Pearl said.

Zazie and Zeek turned around. The starting rock looked tiny.

"We came all this way?" Zeek asked.

"With little kicks?" Zazie asked.

"With little kicks that did not quit," Ms. Pearl said.

Zazie made one small happy flip. Zeek blew a neat ring of bubbles.

"Tomorrow, I want to try again," Zazie said.

"And the day after tomorrow," Zeek said.

"That is how strong swimmers grow," Ms. Pearl said.

Zazie and Zeek lined up for one more glide. Tick. Kick. Tick. Kick. This time, they did not rush. They moved through the blue water together, bubble by bubble.
